The Frederick Porter Griffin Center for Local History and Genealogy

The Frederick Porter Griffin Center for Local History and Genealogy is a special library within the Harrison County Public Library system. It is named in honor of local historian and genealogist, Frederick Porter Griffin (1915-2008) and is housed in the county's original 1914 Carnegie Library building in Corydon, Indiana. The Griffin Center contains numerous resources on the families and history of Harrison County including over 5,000 vertical files and 2,000 books, as well as photographs, plat maps, and cemetery records. Early marriage, divorce, and probate records are available on microfilm/microfiche as are county newspapers dating to 1817. Of special interest is our extensive obituary collection, which spans from 1860 to the present. Much of our collection is comprised of donated genealogical records and local history items. Further donations of research are welcome.
